CEO Catherine Dahl Encourages Women in Tech & Their Allies to #PressForProgress with Mentorship Initiative
Vancouver, BC | March 6, 2018 — 50% Female Team; 100% Dedicated to Advancing Women in STEM. On International Women’s Day, Beanworks will join women across the globe to #PressForProgress by spearheading the #WomenPayItForward Mentorship Initiative that encourages young Canadian women to become the STEM leaders of tomorrow. Developed by Beanworks CEO Catherine Dahl, the program aims to partner current women working in technology with girls and young women interested in pursuing careers in tech-related fields. The initiative is one component of Dahl’s dedication to making lasting change in the tech world in regards to gender parity.
“There’s no better time than International Women’s Day to take a moment and reflect, remember the difficulties and strife we pushed past in order to get to where we are today, and ask ourselves how can we make the path to STEM easier for our girls tomorrow,” says Dahl. “Everyone is commenting on how tech needs gender diversity, but no one has a plan to implement change. Gender parity in technology is only possible if we consciously work towards making it happen!”
In association with partner organizations including Canada Learning Code, Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) and Canadian Association of Girls in Science (CAGIS), Beanworks is challenging women in tech and their male allies to each dedicate five hours of time to mentoring young ladies and working closely with them to set goals to successfully carry them into tech-related careers. Currently, technology is not gender inclusive as women make up about less than a quarter of the STEM workforce; a third, at best.
”I not only understand the challenges of being a woman in technology, but am actively working to support women at my own company and in the broader tech community,” says Dahl. “I firmly believe having a diverse team is the key to our success at Beanworks. Our executive team is currently 50% female and we have a company-wide goal to be a gender-equal work environment.”
Beanworks agrees that collective action and shared responsibility for driving gender parity is what makes International Women’s Day successful. Now, more than ever, there’s a strong need to #PressforProgress on gender parity, motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organisation specific. Join the Pay It Forward Mentorship Initiative to help bring gender parity to the word of technology!
