Beanworks CEO Catherine Dahl Nominated for YWCA Women of Distinction Award
March 7, 2017

The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards is known across Canada for honouring exemplary female leaders as well as businesses and organizations that support the wellness and varied needs of their employees. This year, Beanworks is excited to announce that our own Chief Executive Officer, Catherine Dahl, has been selected as a nominee.
As a way to shine a spotlight on the outstanding achievements of women across many different fields in Metro Vancouver, this year’s awards feature over a dozen categories. Award nominees are known to inspire others by breaking new ground or old barriers. These women are visionaries who demonstrate creativity and initiative as leaders and role models. As a nominee in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation category, Catherine is the life force behind Beanworks, with a strong vision and boundless drive.
In early 2012, Catherine fearlessly took a company that had failed, brought three other co-workers together and re-launched the business. In the years since then, she has made a conscious effort to support female career development in the tech sector. Beanworks is proud to be led by a female CEO in the male-dominated tech startup space. As a company, we’re also committed to growing our team in ways that foster greater diversity and inclusion.
In her community work, Catherine is also heavily involved in the Coast Social Enterprise Foundation, a wing of Coast Mental Health that provides employment opportunities for people recovering from mental illness. Thanks to Catherine’s leadership, community giving is likewise a core value at Beanworks. While individual employees are encouraged to take paid time off to volunteer at initiatives of their choice, our whole team participates in Startups Care each year, which raises funds and food donations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
The award winners will be announced at the Women of Distinction Awards Gala on June 8th, 2017, which will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre. We congratulate all the nominees this year!

Many entrepreneurs will comment, “we pivot everyday” or “we’re open to it” but that’s not what pivoting is. You do not pivot your strategy every so often. Often “big decisions” are misquoted as pivots.
